Panthers News · 2018 Hoosier State Relays

Eastbrook’s girls and boys track teams participated in the Hoosier State Relays.  Four ladies and seven boys qualified to participate in the indoor version of the State Championships.

Audrey Altum had the top performance on the girls team with a 9th place finish in the 60 meter hurdles.  Altum was just .03 seconds from qualifying for the finals and becoming all-state.

The girls 4×200 team of Shelley Jones, Grace Brown, Laynie Craw, and Altum also qualified.  The finished 20th overall in the meet.

The boys team had a great showing, scoring 25 points and placing 7th overall, the best showing in team history.

The trials in the 60 meter dash and hurdles started the day.  The boys had close finishes in both events. Andrew Barajas finished 9th in the dash, missing finals by .01 seconds.  Saxon Malonek also ran in the 60 meter dash and placed 19th overall. Graham Johnson also had a close finish in the 60 meter high hurdles.  They had to go into the hundredths of a second to determine the finalist, with Graham taking 9th place.

Connor White was the other individual participant for the Panthers in the 3200 meter run.  Connor ran a solid race just off his personal best time and finished 6th in the race.

The relay events finished the day for Eastbrook.  The 4×200 meter relay (Isaac Brown, Xaine Kirby, Barajas, and Malonek) ran well with a season-best and school best time of 1:35.  The group finished in 6th place and earned all-state honors.

Closing the day was the 4×400 meter relay team of Kirby, Malonek, Johnson, and Ethan Keller.  Keller led off with a quick first leg, putting the team in great position against one of the top teams in the state in a class.  The group battled hard and came up just short of a state championship, finishing second overall and all state. The time of 3:30 was a school-best indoor time.
