Coed Varsity Track, Coed Varsity Track and Field · Boys Track Wins Conference Title

The boys track team won the CIC conference title last evening.  The Panthers scored 200.5 points besting second place Oak Hill with 145 points.

A steady rain could not dampen the Panther’s quest for their first conference title in 34 years. The last conference title came in 1982 when current team member, Keaton Cooper’s dad, Chip was on the team.

The Panthers won the title the same way they had won the previous 4 invitationals earlier in the year, with their depth.  The boys scored in 15 of the 16 events winning 10 of them. Eastbrook won 8 individual titles with 7 different people.   They scored 2 people in the top 4 of 9 events.  Scoring two people in all events except the shot put, discus and 200m.

Peyton Watson led the way last night winning two individual championships in the long jump and 200m dash.  He also teamed with Keaton Cooper, Davon Wallace, and Logan Gunning to win the 4x100m relay.

The Ethans, Keller and Cramer, took second and third in the 400m dash.  They also combined with Graham Johnson and Saxon Malonek to place second in the 4x400m relay.

The hurdle squad dominated the two events placing 1st and 2nd in the 110 and 300 meter races using 4 different athletes.  Graham Johnson won the 110m hurdles followed by Dean Breedlove.  Logan Gunning won the closest race of the evening edging out teammate Andrew Barajas by .01 seconds.  Barajas also scored points with 3rd in the 100m dash and 4th in the pole vault.

The distance crew kept up their steady work.  Cole Kennedy won the 800m run.  He also teamed with Michael Neideck, Brett Holder, and JD Ray to win the 4x800m relay.  Conner White won the 3200m run followed up in third by Channing Cook.  Neideck was also second in the 1600m run and 5th in the 800m.  Holder finished 4th in the 1600m with a season best time.

In other field events freshman Brandon Huber won the high jump with Blayne Altum coming in 4th.  Zach Reid was champion in the pole vault.  Wallace and Jake Taylor rounded out the field events with a 2nd place in the long jump and discus.

The boys go into the tournament undefeated on the season.  They will next run Thursday at Indiana Wesleyan in the sectional championship.
