The junior high boys basketball teams hit the midseason point with winning records as they headed into Christmas break with two wins over Elwood on Monday night.
In the 7th grade game, Jake McKim drilled a 15ft jump shot with ten seconds left in overtime to give the Panthers a 38-37 victory over Elwood. That win, along with a third place finish in the Crestview tournament over the weekend, helped the 7th graders to a 5-4 record as they head into their break.
The 8th graders continued their winning ways by taking the championship for the second consecutive year in the Crestview tournament. They defeated Whitko by 40 points in the first round and then battled host Crestview for three quarters before running away in the fourth quarter for a 17-point victory. The Panthers finished up the first half of their season with a 50-23 victory over Elwood. The 8th grade team has posted 7 wins against only 2 defeats this season.
